ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Behind a strong week in which he averaged 14 points and four rebounds per game, Illinois State freshman Jack Daugherty was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for the first time this season.
Daugherty helped lead Illinois State to a 2-0 week with a lopsided home win over Northern Illinois and then a road win against Cornell on Sunday, December 22. He averaged 14 points and four rebounds per game during the week, making nine of his 15 shots from the field (60 percent), and was 8-of-14 (57.1%) from long range.
He has five games this season with four or more made three-pointers, which are the 20th-most in the country. His three-point field goal percentage on the week was 14th-best among all freshman in NCAA Division I, while his eight makes are tied for the fourth-most among first-year college athletes.
The Redbirds, now 8-4 on the season, rank third in the NCAA in three-point field goal percentage, raising their standing 336 spots and .126 percentage points from a year earlier.
