Redbirds Fall at UNI

CEDAR FALLS, IA – Illinois State Women's Basketball (14-7, 7-4 MVC) saw its three-game win streak snapped Thursday at the hands of UNI (8-12, 7-4) , 74-47.  

HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Illinois State fell behind 22-5 in the first quarter and couldn't overcome the deficit. The Redbirds struggled, shooting 21.9 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 39-17 after 20 minutes. 

  • Molly Lenz scored five straight during an 8-0 run that cut the UNI lead down to 22-13 in the second quarter and gave Illinois State momentum. The Panthers responded though and closed the half on a 17-4 surge.  

  • From there UNI closed out the win to split the season series between the two sides.  

  • Maya Wong and Daijah Smith both finished in double figures for the night. Smith led Illinois State in scoring for the first time in her career and reached double figures for the fifth time this year, totaling 12 points. Wong scored 11 points for her fifth double figure scoring performance over the last seven games.  

GAME NOTES 

  • The Redbirds went 9-for-9 at the charity stripe, the first time this year the Redbirds have hit all of their free throws in a single game.  

  • It was just the second time this year the Redbirds finished a single game with fewer than five threes. Illinois State went 4-for-27 from deep in the loss for a season-low 14.8 percent. From the field, Illinois State shot a season-low 27.9 percent and scored a season-low 47 points.
