Redbirds Start Weekend With 7-0 Sweep Over UNI

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The first of two weekend matches in the state of Iowa for the Illinois State women's tennis team went extremely well for the Redbirds, who cruised to a 7-0 sweep over UNI on Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Illinois State took the early lead by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The No. 1 duo of Tijana Zlatanovic and Lana Caculovic defeated Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso by a score of 6-3 and the No. 2 tandem of Silvia Pomarolli and Nevena Kolarevic picked up a 6-3 win over Andrijana Brkic and Kanyanut Sudsaard. To complete the sweep, Nuria Sanz and Zoe Limparis won 6-1 against Issa Sullivan Lasya Mylavarapu at the No. 3 spot as action moved to singles.

Zlatanovic had to bounce back in her match at the No. 1 spot after dropping the first set to Brkic 3-6, however she won the second set 7-5 and the third-set tiebreaker, 10-5, to pick up a victory. The remainder of the singles matches were quick, straight-set wins for the Redbirds, who improved to 14-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

The Redbirds wrap up their weekend in Iowa tomorrow, when they travel to Des Moines to take on the Drake Bulldogs at 2 p.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
