Des Moines, Iowa - The Illinois State track & field squad completed day one at the prestigious Drake Relays, highlighted by a top-10 performance and win by junior Mattison Plummer in the steeplechase at Drake Stadium on Thursday.

It was a light first day in the heartland of America, as the distance squad started the weekend off for the 'Birds at the Drake Relays.
On the men's side, junior Zack Loomis finished ninth in the 5,000m run with 14:25.74, while sophomore Garrett Slack finished 11th in a time of 1:52.42.Â
On the women's side, junior Mattison Plummer cracked the ISU top-10 list as she won the 3,000m steeplechase with 10:12.83, which puts her seventh in school history.Â

Junior Lauren Schulze finished fourth in the 1,500m with a personal-best time of 4:38.85, as sophomore Maggie Reed took eighth with a time of 4:43.32.Â
