NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State baseball fell, 11-1, to Western Illinois on Wednesday at Duffy Bass Field in seven innings.
The Leathernecks (11-30 overall) scored six early runs in the first two innings and never surrendered the lead.
Illinois State (21-22 overall) saw sophomore Luke Lawrence finish 2-for-4 as he would be the lone Redbird with multiple hits.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Western Illinois scored the game's first six runs, plating four in the 1st and two in the 2nd.
Illinois State would get on the board in the bottom of the 2nd with a bases-loaded groundout by senior Greg Nichols.
The Leathernecks added a pair of runs in the 5th off an RBI single to lead 8-1 before adding three more in the 7th to put the game into run-rule territory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lawrence's on-base streak moves to 29 games, the longest by a Redbird this season.
- Sophomore Thomas Harper provided 3.0 innings of relief for the 'Birds with four strikeouts.

Illinois State is scheduled to host Southern Illinois at Duffy Bass Field in a three-game series from May 3-5.
