NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State baseball concluded the 2024 regular season, defeating Belmont, 8-1, Saturday from Duffy Bass Field.
Illinois State (28-25 overall, 16-11 MVC) was led by redshirt junior Judah Morris, going 2-for-4 with six RBIs.
Belmont finishes the regular season at 25-30 overall and 12-15 in MVC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Illinois State opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st with a two-run home run to left center by Morris, his 11th long ball of 2024, for the early 2-0 lead.
Belmont got on the board in the top of the 6th with a solo home run, making the score 2-1 ILS.
The Redbirds made it a three-run ball game off sophomore Daniel Pacella's 11th long ball of 2024 and an RBI triple from sophomore Shai Robinson in the 6th for a 4-1 Redbird advantage.
Morris would add to this daily RBI total with an 7th inning grand slam to put the game out of reach, for an 8-1 ILS lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior Carter Monke started on the mound for ILS, throwing 8.0 innings with four strikeouts
- Morris' grand slam is the first Redbird grand slam since March 3 (Noah Rabin at UA-Pine Bluff)
- The Redbirds will make their fourth MVC Tournament appearance under head coach Steve Holm.
