EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Illinois State baseball run-ruled Southern Illinois, 14-4, to wrap up day three of the 2024 MVC Tournament on Thursday at Charles H. Braun Stadium.
The Redbirds (30-26 overall) staves off elimination and will play against the winner of UIC/Evansville on Saturday.
Junior Tyler Herron anchored the Redbird offense, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. The Redbirds generated 11 hits as a team.
Southern Illinois (33-26 overall) moves to 2-1 in the 2024 MVC Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Redbirds struck first in the 2nd inning with two runs for an early 2-0 lead.
Illinois State erupted for five runs in the 3rd, including a two-RBI double from JT Sokolove, to make it 7-0 in favor of the 'Birds after three innings.
Southern Illinois got on the scoreboard in the 6th with four runs to make it 7-4.
ILS responded in the bottom of the 6th with a three-run home run from Shai Robinson, his fourth home run of the season, to increase the lead to 10-4.
Herron gave the 'Birds some late insurance with a bases-clearing triple in the 8th to make it 12-4 Illinois State before a wild pitch and walk-off single from Luke Lawrence gave ILS a 14-4 win.

- Junior Carter Monke got the start, throwing 6.0 innings with nine strikeouts
- ILS has now won two straight MVC Tournament games versus Southern Illinois (2019 & tonight).
