ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Following a record-setting weekend at the Redbird Invitational, Illinois State golfers Jinyoung Yun and Morgan Jones were two of the three golfers to be named Missouri Valley Conference Co-Golfers of the Week.
The pair shared medalist honors at the Redbird Invitational, behind three-round scores of 209, which are tied for the second-lowest tournament score in program history. Jones – who had rounds of 70, 67, and 72 – tied the school single-round scoring mark in the second round with her 67, while Yun cruised with steady scores of 69, 70, and 70.
For Yun, the reigning MVC Golfer of the Year, this is her fourth career Golfer of the Week honor, while Jones – a transfer from Auburn – earned her first.
In the process of setting individual marks, the Redbirds tied the school single-round record the first time through the course with a 282 (-6), before topping that total with a now-record 281 (-7) in the second round. Behind the team's final round score of 286 – also the eighth-lowest single-round score in program history - ISU's 849 is eight strokes better than the previous school tournament record of 857 wet last season at the Clash at Boulder Creek.
For ISU, 10 of the 11 lowest tournament scores in program history and 13 of the 14 lowest single-round scores have come since 2021.
The Redbirds will look to put their tournament win streak to the test on September 23 and 24 when the squad travels south to the Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri.
