TOLEDO, Ohio – Playing on a difficult course in a loaded field, the Illinois State women's golf team closed the first day at the Inverness Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Toledo.
ISU is 12th in the field, trailing Florida (597), Princeton (599), Ohio State (605), NC State (606), TCU (613), Middle Tennessee (613), Florida Gulf Coast (615), Notre Dame (615), South Alabama (620), Coastal Carolina (625), and Toledo (636).
Reigning MVC Freshman of the Year Elise Fennell is ISU's top finisher through 36 holes after rounds of 77 and 83 – with a birdie on each round in addition to 16 pars on the day, and her two-round 160 is tied for 47th.
Sophomore Alex Sparrow's two-round 162 had a birdie and 19 pars and is tied for 54th. Reagan Kennedy and Dani Grace Schrock are tied for 57th and 62nd, respectively after 36-hole scores of 164 and 168, each.
The Redbirds – along with Coastal Carolina and Toledo – tee off for the third and final round starting at 7:30 a.m. (CT) on the back nine of the course.
