Doug Collins Day: Honoring the Legacy of the GOAT

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State Athletic Department is excited to welcome the legendary Doug Collins back to CEFCU Arena on Saturday February 1, where the program will honor Collins for his induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The department will honor Collins at halftime of the February 1 game against Valparaiso, his first game back to CEFCU Arena since his October induction into the Hall of Fame – the highest honor in the sport of basketball.

Originally dedicated on February 3, 2007, "Doug Collins Court" will have a new playing surface – to be installed in late January – and the February 1 contest will be the first chance for him to see the new court in action.

In honor of Doug Collins and his iconic #20 jersey, the department is offering 20% off all single-game tickets. Use the promo code GOAT when visiting www.goredbirds.com/promotions and select your seat.

Additionally, the first 800 students in attendance will receive a white replica jersey featuring the current throwback design, complete with Collins' name and number.

Collins remains the most decorated athlete in Illinois State history. The three-time All-American and 1972 Olympic Team member holds Illinois State records in career scoring (2,240), season scoring (847), career field goals made (894), and season field goals made (352). He had nine career 40-point scoring games over his ISU career, including the second- and third-highest scoring games in program history. He scored in double-figures in all 77 of his career games.

Because of his stellar play, he was the No. 1 pick in the 1973 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He had also received the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 and was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.
