Redbirds Post Season Best Score At The Windy City Invite

CHICAGO – A trip north to Chicago for the Illinois State gymnastics team resulted in the team's best performance of the season to date, as the Redbirds posted a season-high score of 195.650 to win the Windy City Invite on Friday night at Navy Pier.

Scoring Breakdown:
•    Illinois State: 195.650
•    Fisk: 192.225
•    UW-Stout: 187.000
•    Wilberforce: 177.025

Thoughts From Coach Conkling:
"The team had another strong night, as they continue to improve on their team score. I'm so happy with how they stayed focused from the start to the finish of the competition."

Team Notes:
•    The Redbirds posted a 48.825 on vault to start the meet and followed that with a strong score of 48.625 on bars.
•    ISU then moved onto beam, where they set a season best with a tally of 48.900.
•    Illinois State wrapped up the meet on the floor, where it posted a season-high of 49.300 to round out the stellar evening for the Redbirds … that score of 49.300 on floor ties for the 10th-highest mark in program history.

Gymnast Notes:
•    Senior Jaye Mack tied the highest score of the night with a 9.900 on the final routine of the meet to take the win on floor, as she also picked up an event win on beam with a score of 9.825.
•    Also on beam, Leah Davis, Reese Grolla and Jaly Jones each tied for second place with scores of 9.775.
•    Alana tied for the top score of the night, as she took home the event win on vault with a 9.900, as Mack and Maya Robinson tied for third with matching scores of 9.775.
•    Jada Beswick was the top finisher for the Redbirds on bars, as she came in second with a 9.800 followed by Grolla in third with a 9.775.
•    On floor, Sara Wabi and Laster tied for second with scores of 9.875 just behind Mack in the top spot, and Jones was fourth with a 9.850.

Up Next:
Illinois State returns to action on Friday, January 24, when the Redbirds travel to DeKalb, Illinois, for a dual meet with the Northern Illinois Huskies. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. from the Convocation Center.
