WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.-- Despite a singles victory from graduate student Elena Jankulovska, the Illinois State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Big Ten foe, Purdue, inside Schwartz Tennis Center on Saturday.
In singles play, Jankulovska played to a tiebreaker, recording scores of 4-6, 6-3, 0-1 (9-11) against Ece Gencer of the Boilermakers who is on this year's Big Ten Player to Watch list.
Head coach Maja Kovacek was happy with the resilience from the Redbirds. "I thought we needed more time to adjust to their pace in doubles and got going a bit late. I'm really happy with how we played in singles right from the start. We competed hard in every spot and forced our opponents to beat us. I think this is a very encouraging starting point for our season.", Kovacek said.
