IOWA CITY, Iowa.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team traveled to Iowa City Monday where the Redbirds dropped a 7-0 decision against the Iowa Hawkeyes of the Big Ten Conference inside Hawkeye Women's Tennis and Recreation Complex.
At No. 1 doubles, juniors Lana Caculovic and Silvia Pomarolli fell in straight sets to Tereza Dejnozkova and Barbora Pokorna, 6-2, 6-2. ISU lost the doubles point at No. 3 when junior Nuria Sanz and freshman Nicole Iosio dropped a 7-6 (5) tiebreaker.
In singles play, the Redbirds were swept by the Hawkeyes. At No. 1 singles, Caculovic dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision in straight sets to Daianne Hayashida. Playing at number 2 Pomarolli fell 6-3, 6-2 to Dejnozkova. At No. 3, Emma Lindh was swept by Iowa's Marisa Schmidt by scores of 6-3, 6-0. To round out the top four, Nuria Sanz played to a narrow 6-4, 7-5 decision against Nikita Vishwase of the Hawkeyes.
