IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Illinois State track & field program wrapped up Day One of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City on Friday evening.
Junior Jake Welch captured an event win for the Redbirds in the men's 600m run with a mark of 1:18.48. Welch's time now sits fourth on the program's top-10 list. Junior Star Mpama also joined the program's top-10 list in the women's 600m run with a time of 1:32.98.
Mpama and Welch become the 12th and 13th Redbirds this season to move into the program's top-10 list.
Senior Lauren Schulze, a native of Clive, Iowa, returned to the Hawkeye State and ran a time of 10:01.75 in the women's 3000m. Schulze also returned to Iowa City where her mother, Jenny competed for Iowa as a distance runner.
Freshman Trey Thomas and Senior Kiley Sanders secured podium finishes in the high jump. Thomas cleared the bar at 1.95 (6-4.75) as Sanders cleared at 1.70m.
Senior Sean Hopkins recorded a mark of 7.08m (23-2.75) in the men's long jump to secure a second-place finish. On the women's side, Senior Atleigh Hamilton recorded a jump of 5.68m, a season-best mark.
Sophomore Garrett Taylor secured a top-5 finish in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.92m (55-6.25).
Sophomore Adison Scott recorded a season-best 15.26m throw in the women's weight throw in a ninth-place finish.
