HUNTINGTON, W.V.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team (5-4) cruised past Radford University (1-3) of the Big South Conference by a score of 4-1 on Saturday, February 22 inside Brian David Fox Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Birds picked up wins from freshman Emma Lindh (Malmo, Sweden) and graduate student Elena Jankulovska (Skopje, Macedonia) at No. 2 by a score of 6-0. Junior Nuria Sanz (Valencia, Spain) and freshman Nicole Iosio (Cordenons, Italy) battled to a 6-2 win over Stephens and Murphy of Radford University.
In singles play, Illinois State collected four total wins. At No. 2, Pomarolli defeated Abrams of the Highlanders in straight sets by scores of 7-5, 6-2. At No. 4, Sanz battled to a 6-0, 6-1 win against Reimer. At No. 5, Jankulovska bested Murphy by a final of 6-1, 6-0. The final victory of the day came thanks to Iosio at No. 6 who picked up the win in the tiebreaker, 6-1 (2-0).

The Birds will return to Bloomington for a 12:30 p.m. match with Eastern Illinois at Evergreen Racquet Club on March 2. Illinois State will then travel to Edwardsville to face SIUE for a 2:30 p.m. match on March 9 inside the SIUE Recreation Sports Complex.
