Redbirds Offense Provides Lift over Cardinals, 11-1

MUNCIE, Ind. – Senior Kyle Gibson led the Redbird offense, who totaled 13 hits, in Illinois State baseball's 11-1 eight-inning win over Ball State on Tuesday in the first midweek of 2025.

As he went 4-for-5 at the plate, Gibson finished with two RBIs and two stolen bases.

Two other Redbirds finished with at least two hits as Daniel Pacella collected a 3-for-5 effort while Judah Morris finished the afternoon 2-for-4.

Morris, Brayden Bakes, and Graham Mastros all tallied two RBIs as Pacella totaled an RBI in the victory.

The Redbirds jump to 1-5 overall while Ball State moves to 4-4 overall.

SCORING BREAKDOWN

Illinois State got on the board first in the 1st inning off an RBI double from Pacella to plate Gibson for the 1-0 lead.

In the 2nd inning, with the bases loaded, Gibson sent a ball to left center to plate the Redbirds' second run before a bases loaded walk and passed ball allowed Illinois State to extend the lead to 4-0.

Another Gibson RBI single in the 3rd made it 5-0. Then, in the 4th inning, Morris knocked an RBI double before Mastros sent out his first home run as a Redbird for an 8-0 lead after four innings of play.

Morris would lead off the 6th inning with a moon shot over the batter's eye, his second home run of the year, to make it a 9-0 ball game.

Ball State would get on the board in the 7th inning off a fielder's choice.

The 8th inning would see two more Redbirds cross the plate off the bat of Bakes, who knocked his first Redbird home run, to make it 11-1.

Fishers, Indiana native and Redbird pitcher, Joey Wilmoth, would come in the 8th to close out the game as he got a fly out, ground out, and strike out to secure the run-rule victory.
