Baseball Set for Weekend Series at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – After picking up a midweek victory over Ball State, Illinois State baseball (1-5) heads back on the road for its third weekend series of the year.

The Birds will travel to St. Charles, Missouri to face Lindenwood (4-5) in a three-game series at the Lou Brock Sports Complex from Feb. 28-Mar. 2.

LAST TIME OUT
Illinois State senior Kyle Gibson led the Redbird offense, who totaled 13 hits, in Illinois State baseball's 11-1 eight-inning win over Ball State on Tuesday in the first midweek of 2025.

As he went 4-for-5 at the plate, Gibson finished with two RBIs and two stolen bases.

SERIES HISTORY
The Redbirds and Lions have met twice in a series history with ISU leading, 2-0. 

Last season, ISU saw home runs from Judah Morris and Daniel Pacella as part of an 8-6 win over the Lions in St. Charles. As a team, ISU finished with 11 hits.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
Lindenwood sits at 4-5 in 2025 with their most recent game being a 14-10 loss on Tuesday at Missouri. PJ Finigan enters his third season at Lindenwood, and second as head coach, in 2025. In 2024, the Lions went 16-38 overall, including 8-16 at home.

Tyler Thompson is off to a blazing start at the dish for the Lions, as one of three Lions hitting .400 or better so far this season. Thompson is hitting a team-best blistering .440 with 11 hits and 10 RBIs while also collecting eight walks to only two strikeouts.

Eli Brown highlights the pitching staff with a 5.25 ERA and strikeout-to-walk ratio of 18:2 in 12.0 innings. 

2025 SLATE

The 22 teams on the 2025 schedule for ISU averaged 27 wins last season and feature five NCAA regional qualifiers (Evansville, Illinois, Indiana State, Oral Roberts, and Oklahoma State).

Seven 2025 opponents finished last season in the top 100 in RPI (12. Indiana State; 16. Oklahoma State; 43. Illinois; 52. Evansville; 80. Murray State; 89. UIC; 100. Western Kentucky).

ILLINOIS STATE TO HOST MVC TOURNAMENT

The 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Championships will take place from Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Illinois. 

The eight-team tournament opens on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, and is scheduled to run through Saturday, May 24, 2025.

This is the first time Illinois State will host the MVC Championships since 2019. 

ON DECK FOR ISU

Following the weekend, Illinois State treks to the Sooner State for a midweek at Oral Roberts on March 5 before facing off with Oklahoma State in a three-game set from March 7-9.
