Redbirds Travel to Northwestern for Midweek Matchup

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Illinois State baseball team will make the short trip up Interstate 55 to take on in-state foe Northwestern on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. from Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.

The Redbirds return to action after going 1-3 in Oklahoma last week, picking up a win of then-#25 Oklahoma State on Friday.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS

Northwestern (7-7) will kickstart their 2025 home slate on Tuesday following a weekend split at The Citadel. The Wildcats finished 2024 with an 18-34 record, including 8-11 at home, under first year head coach Ben Greenspan.

The Wildcats return the bulk of their lineup from 2024 and return at least 75% of its total hits, runs, runs batted in, home runs, and extra base hits in the lineup in 2025.

NU's Jackson Freeman, Bennett Markinson, and Owen McElfatrick were all named to the 2025 Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch List.

BIRDS BEAT COWBOYS

Illinois State collected a Friday night victory over #25 Oklahoma State on March 7. This marks the ninth top-25 win for ISU under head coach Steve Holm.

Judah Morris finished the night going 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs while Thomas Harper collected his first career save after throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with only one hit allowed.

BATTLE OF THE BIRDS

Illinois State secured their first win of the 2025 season on February 25 with an 11-1 midweek victory over Ball State.

Senior Kyle Gibson led the Redbird offense, who totaled 13 hits, with a 4-for-5 day at the plate with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Gibson is the first Redbird with four hits in a game since Daniel Pacella last May.

Pacella, meanwhile, became the first Redbird with three doubles in a game since Joe Aeilts in April 2019.

ILLINOIS STATE TO HOST MVC TOURNAMENT

The 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Championships will take place from Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Illinois. 

The eight-team tournament opens on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, and is scheduled to run through Saturday, May 24, 2025.

This is the first time Illinois State will host the MVC Championships since 2019. 

ON DECK FOR ISU

Following Tuesday, Illinois State will kickstart a four-game series against Western Illinois on Thursday. First pitch is set for 2 PM from Macomb.
