CARBONDALE, Ill. – For the second day in a row, Southern Illinois pitching was too much for Illinois State as the Salukis (10-14, 2-0 MVC) picked up a 3-0 win on Saturday over the Redbirds (6-20, 0-2 MVC) in the second game of the Missouri Valley Conference opening-weekend series in Carbondale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Salukis jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly that scored Lee from third. They would then tack on a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Williams and an RBI groundout by Baker. For the second day in a row, McKenzie Newcomb came on in relief for SIU and picked up the win allowing no runs on four hits.
ON DECK
The Redbirds and Salukis will finish their three-game series on Sunday, with first pitch set for Noon at Charlotte West Stadium.
