ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Illinois State baseball senior Tanner Perry has been tabbed Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The O'Fallon, Missouri, native, recorded his seventh outing this season with 6+ strikeouts to lead Illinois State to a series-clinching 1-0 win over UIC on May 11.
Perry, who only allowed two hits and two walks over nine scoreless innings, recorded the first nine-inning complete game shutout for Illinois State since March 2024 (Tyrelle Chadwick).
His seven-strikeout shutout performance is also the first nine-inning complete game for the Redbirds since Perry did so earlier this year against Western Illinois on March 15.
The O'Fallon, Missouri, native retired eight of the first 10 Flames he faced. Across his outing, Perry faced the minimum in five (2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th) of the nine innings.
Perry is the fourth Redbird this season to win a weekly MVC award, joining Chadwick (March 18 - Pitcher), Brayden Bakes (March 24 - Player), and Daniel Pacella (April 14 – Player).
Illinois State is scheduled its final midweek of 2025 as the Redbirds host Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, May 13, at 5 PM from Duffy Bass Field.
ON DECK
Following Tuesday, Illinois State concludes the regular season with a trip to Terre Haute, Indiana, for a three-game set against Indiana State on May 15-17.
