NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State soccer is set to travel to Martin, Tenn. for a contest with UT Martin Sunday afternoon at Skyhawk Soccer Field. Kick off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+.
The Redbirds enter Sunday's contest after securing their first win of the season on Thursday with a 5-0 victory over Western Illinois. Thursday's win marked the largest margin of victory so far for second-year head coach Raleigh DeRose. It was also the first five-goal win for Illinois State since September 2022. The Redbirds had four different goal scorers in Thursday's win, including Graduate Elyse DeSchryver and Sophomore Danica Key, who each scored their first collegiate goals.
The Skyhawks will face Illinois State after suffering their first loss of the season, Thursday, 1-0, against Ole Miss. UT Martin is led by Mike Varga, who enters his third season leading the Skyhawks. Last season, Varga led UT Martin to the OVC Conference tournament for the second straight season.
Sunday's meeting marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs and the third OVC opponent the Redbirds will face this season.Â
