SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Valley Conference league office has announced this week's (9/16) women's soccer players of the week. Redbird Senior Jade Rehberger was named this week's MVC Defender of the Week.
Rehberger becomes the third Redbird this season to earn a conference weekly honor, joining teammates Kaya Durkee (Defender) and Rylann Law (Freshman) to receive an award. Rehberger's honor marks the third consecutive week that Illinois State has had a player win an MVC weekly award.
Rehberger's award also marks the second of her career and her first since her freshman campaign in 2022, where she won Freshman of the Week honors.
Last week, Rehberger played a crucial role in the Illinois State posting back-to-back shutouts in their draws with Eastern Illinois and Saint Louis. With the two shutouts, the Redbirds have a record five shutouts this season, matching last year's total in just the non-conference schedule. Illinois State's five shutouts lead the MVC and rank 17th in the country.
In the last six games, Rehberger and the Redbirds defense has conceded one goal, which is the fewest in a six game stretch since 2003.
