The two programs meet for the sixth time in the series history with the Redbirds holding a 3-1-1 in the all-time series. In last year's contest the two teams recorded their first draw of the series with a scoreless tie in September in Carbondale, Ill. In Normal, Illinois State is unbeaten with a 2-0-0 record.
The Redbirds enter Sunday's matchup after recording a 0-0 draw with Valparaiso, Thursday evening at Brown Field. Thursday's draw marked the fourth consecutive draw, which is the longest stretch of draws in program history. Illinois State also recorded back-to-back draws in conference play in school history.
With the scoreless draw, the Redbirds picked up their sixth shutout of the season on Thursday, which is the most in a season under head coach Raleigh DeRose. Redshirt Sophomore Madi Valenti tallied her 10th career shutout to become the seventh Redbird goalkeeper in program history to record double-digit shutouts in their career. Valenti now sits tied with Andrea Shaw (2003-06).
Southern Illinois travels to Normal after recording its second consecutive win to open conference play with a 2-1 victory over Evansville, Thursday evening. The Salukis are led by third-year head coach Graeme Orr, who holds a 15-20-12 record at the helm of Southern Illinois.
