SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Valley Conference league office has announced this week's (9/22) women's soccer players of the week. Redbird Redshirt Sophomore Madi Valenti was named this week's MVC Goalkeeper of the Week.
Valenti becomes the fourth Redbird this season to earn a conference weekly honor, joining teammates Kaya Durkee and Jade Rehberger (Defender) and Rylann Law (Freshman) to receive a weekly award. Valenti's honor marks the fourth straight week that Illinois State has had a player win an MVC weekly award. Valenti's selection marks the first MVC weekly award selection of her career.
Last Thursday, Valenti played a crucial role in Illinois State's 1-1 draw in its conference opener against Murray State. Valenti tallied three saves, all of which came in the second half, including a save in the 86th minute to keep the contest level.
Valenti continues to lead the MVC with 47 saves and has recorded at least three saves in five of the last six contests for the Redbirds. In the last seven games, Valenti has helped the Redbirds concede just two goals.
