Walker Earns Second MVC Player of the Week Award This Season

ST. LOUIS – For the second time this season, Illinois State junior center Chase Walker has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after splitting the weekends' games, highlighted by a 26-point win over I-74 rival Bradley on Saturday afternoon. Walker was previously named MVC Player of the Week on January 5.

During the week he averaged an ISU-best 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, as he scored 20+ points in each of the contests. He recorded his first double-double of the season on Saturday against Bradley with 20 points and a career-high-tying 11 rebounds. Against the Braves he made 8-of-12 shots from the field.

During the week he had the sixth-best scoring average in the MVC, while his field goal percentage was seventh best. He also had the second-most steals and fourth-most blocked shots over the two games during the week.

This season is just the 11th time in program history that a Redbird has earned two or more Player of the Week honors in the same season, and this is the second time that Walker has done it, as he was named Player of the Week on December 16 and February 3.

His four career Player of the Week honors are tied for the fourth-most by a single student-athlete in program history, behind only Osiris Eldridge (6), Rico Hill (5), and Jackie Carmichael (5).

ISU hosts Northern Iowa on Wednesday night in an 8 p.m. tip-off inside CEFCU Arena, before traveling to Nashville, Tennessee, to take on the Belmont Braves on Sunday, January 25.
