MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Coming off a double-meet performance last weekend with meets in Chicago and at home in Normal, the Illinois State gymnastics team returns to the mats this weekend for a single meet against Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan on Saturday night.
SETTING THE SCENE
The Redbirds will face off against Central Michigan in a dual meet, set to begin at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday night at McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Both teams are coming off wins in their previous meets and will be looking to keep momentum going early in the season. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+, and live stats will be available via Virtius.
SCOUTING ILLINOIS STATE
•   In its second meet of the weekend, Illinois State competed against Midwest Independent Conference foe Centenary for the second time in three days as it hosted the Ladies at Horton Field House, and the Redbirds came away with a 193.700-185.575 win over Centenary on Sunday afternoon.
•   The score was a season-high for the Redbirds, who won three of four events in the victory to open the home slate.
•   Savannah Ray (vault), Jada Beswick (bars) and Jaly Jones/Leah Davis (floor) were all event winners for the Redbirds, with Jones and Davis posting the highest individual event scores of the evening with their tie for the top spot on floor.
SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN
•   Central Michigan heads into the meet 3-0 in head-to-head matchups to start the season, with victories over Southeast Missouri State and Fisk in the opening meet of the year and last weekend over MAC foe Western Michigan.
•   The Chippewas opened their home slate last Sunday night and outscored the in-state Broncos by a score of 195.000-194.675.
•   CMIU earned its first MAC win of the season by taking wins on three of the four events, led by a sweep on uneven bars with a team score of 49.150. Lia Kmieciak tied her career-best to win bars with a 9.900 and Luciana Alvarado-Reid placed second with a 9.850. Ava Wellmeier and Kaitlyn Schwab tied for third, each scoring 9.825, and a new career-high for Wellmeier.
