CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Illinois State gymnastics team will travel to a familiar spot on Sunday and compete against some familiar faces, as the Redbirds head to Cape Girardeu, Missouri, to compete in the SEMO Quad Meet alongside the host RedHawks, Ball State and Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
SETTING THE SCENE
SEMO is hosting its first quad-meet of the season in Cape Girardeau, with competition slated to begin at 1 p.m., CT at the Show Me Center. Fans not able to make the trip can watch the action on ESPN+ and live stats for Sunday's quad meet at SEMO will be available via Virtius.Â
SCOUTING ILLINOIS STATE
•   The Redbirds are ranked No. 56 in this week's Road To Nationals rankings, just one spot behind host Southeast Missouri State.
•   ISU fought hard last weekend in a dual meet with Central Michigan, but it was the Chippewas who picked up a 194.900-193.625 win over the Redbirds at the McGuirk Arena.
•   Illinois State picked up a pair of event wins in the meet with the Chippewas, with Sammie Wolff tying for the event win on vault with a score of 9.825 and Ally Lau took the win on the beam, as she posted a 9.825.
•   Freshman Jercy Koliego was also solid, as she placed fourth overall on bars with a career-high 9.800. For their efforts, Lau (Performance of the Week) and Koliego (Newcomer of the Week) took home weekly honors from the Midwest Independent Conference last week.
•   First-year head coach Cassandra Ringer will face off against her former team in Ball State, where she spent the last seven seasons as an assistant coach.
SCOUTING SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE
•   The RedHawks come in at No. 55 in the Road To Nationals rankings, one spot ahead of the Redbirds.
•   The Gymhawks competed at Arkansas last Friday and finished with a score of 192.675, falling to Arkansas who scored a 197.475.
•   Taylor Ingle competed in the all-around for SEMO, as she took fourth place overall with a 38.900. SEMO scored a 48.150 on vault, 47.975 on bars, 47.925 on beam, and 48.625 on the floor.
•   Nyah Reader, who has competed in the beam lineup in all three meets so far this season, turned in a season-high 9.825 for the Gymhawks against the Razorbacks.
SCOUTING BALL STATE
•   Ball State comes in at No. 45 in the most recent Road To Nationals Rankings, the highest ranked team in the quad meet.
•   The Cardinals earned a season-best score of 195.225 against Bowling Green (Jan. 18) and have taken top honors in all four individual events in each of their last two outings.
•   BSU currently leads the MAC and rank 20th nationally with an average beam score of 48.958.
•   Ashley Szymanski has been named the MAC Specialist of the Week for the past two weeks, with her strong performances on bars and beam.
SCOUTING WISCONSIN-OSHKOSH
•   The Titans enter the weekend ranked No. 63 nationally with an average score of 191.888.
•   UW-Oshkosh scored a season-best 192.100 in its season-opening UW-Oshkosh Quad on Jan. 3.
•   The Titans' best event is floor, with the squad ranking 58th nationally with an average score of 48.413.
