ST. LOUIS – Illinois State sophomore forward Doneelah Washington put together another dominant week on the court for the Redbirds and for her efforts, she has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Washington put together two more stellar performances this week against the top two teams in the Valley standings. For the week, she averaged 22.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest, while adding three assists and two blocked shots. She shot .593 from the field (16-for-27), was 2-for-3 from three-point range and was 11-for-13 from the charity stripe.Â
In Friday night's overtime win against Belmont, Washington scored a career-high 31 points and brought down 12 rebounds to record her ninth double-double of the season. It also marked the first 30+ point, 10+ rebound effort for the Redbirds since 2012 when Jamie Russell achieved the feat. She followed that up with her 10th double-double of the year, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against top-ranked Murray State on Sunday. She is one of just two players in the league ranked in the top 6 in scoring (17.0 ppg) and rebounding (9.0) along with Murray State's Sharnecce Currie-Jelks.
The Redbirds will host their final game of the regular season on Thursday against Southern Illinois at 6 p.m., before hitting the road for a Saturday matchup against Valparaiso at 1 p.m.
