EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Illinois State swim and dive wrapped up day one of the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships from the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Ind.
On the first day of action, the Redbirds claimed 307 points with nine student-athletes advancing and competing in the finals of their events.
PRELIMS
The Redbirds opened day two with four student-athletes qualifying for the 100 Y Fly. Senior Mia Snow led the way for Illinois State in the prelims with a runner-up finish with a time of 53.83. Seniors Giulia Basco (56.03), Ella Turken (56.77), and Delaney Boulden (56.99) each joined Snow in qualifying for the 100 Y Fly Final. Basco
In the 400 Y IM, Sophomore Hope Westhal and Freshman Ava Ostendorf reached the final. Westphal earned a time of 4:36.76 as Ostendorf notched a season-best mark of 4:37.70.
In the final prelim event of the day, three Redbirds qualified for the finals of the 200 Y Free. Sophomore Amelia Murphy paced Illinois State with a season-best time of 1:51.25. Juniors Sylvia Admire and Bailey Gott joined Murphy in qualifying with season-best times of 1:53.17 and 1:53.23.
FINALS
In the 100 Y Fly Finals, Snow earned a runner-up finish, marking her second straight second-place finish in the 100 Y Fly. Basco improved on her top-10 mark set in the prelims with a time of 55.62 to move to fifth in the program's top-10 list. Boulden added a season-best mark of 56.36.
In the 400 Y IM Finals, Westphal improved on her time with a mark of 4:36.61, a new season-best mark. Ostendorf, in her MVC Swimming and Diving Championship debut, earned a time of 4:40.28.
Murphy earned a 12th-place finish with a time of 1:50.98 in the 200 Y Free. Murphy's mark is the 10th-fastest time in program history for the event. Gott, in her first appearance at the conference title meet with Illinois State, earned a time of 1:53.95. Admire tallied a time of 1:54.80 in the finals.
To close out day two, the Redbirds' 200 Y Medley Relay team of Boulden, Fris, Snow, and Turken recorded a time of 1:42.21, which marks the seventh-fastest time in program history.
DIVING
From the 1-meter diving boards, the Redbirds Sophomore Emma Thompson and Freshman Bayley Fowler advanced to the B Finals ot event. In the prelims, Thompson scored a total of 200.80, and Fowler notched a 200.25 total to qualify. Thompson and Fowler improved on their prelim scores in the final with marks of 204,90 and 206.70

The Redbirds will return for day three of the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Deaconess Aquatic Center. Action will resume at 10:30 a.m. with event prelims on Friday morning.
