ST. LOUIS -- Illinois State softball's Morgan Calhoun has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. This is Calhoun's second straight weekly honor and the Redbirds' third overall this season.
The freshman out of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., started all three games in the designated player spot for Illinois State in its MVC series opener at Evansville this past weekend. She batted .444 (4-for-9) with one triple, one home run, three walks, three runs scored and four RBIs. She went 3-for-4 in game one of the series with a triple, one RBI and two runs scored in the 3-2 victory.
Calhoun currently ranks fourth in the conference and leads the team with a .441 batting average this season. She also ranks second in the MVC with 22 RBIs and is tied for the most home runs by a freshman in the conference with four.Â
ON DECK
Calhoun and the Redbirds will be back in action this weekend for a three-game home series against the Drake Bulldogs. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. CT on Friday at Marian Kneer Stadium.
