ST. LOUIS – Illinois State graduate student Boden Skunberg has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, announced by the Conference office on Monday afternoon.
Over the two games – a pair of Nationally-televised wins – Skunberg averaged 14.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while making 59 percent of his shots from the field (10-of-17), and 55 percent (6-of-11) from long range.
This season Skunberg has played 30 games, starting 29 times, and is averaging 10.3 points per game, while adding 4.5 boards per contest and 40 assists. He has made 47 percent of his shots in the year, 43 percent from beyond the arc, and 72 percent from the charity stripe.
The Redbirds won their games – 71-69 against Northern Iowa, and 81-74 against Belmont – to push ISU into the third seed for the upcoming MVC Tournament. The Birds will face either Northern Iowa or Evansville on Friday evening with an 8:30 p.m. tip-off in the quarterfinals of the MVC Tournament.
