Five Redbirds Make Moves in Program Record Book

Illinois State track and field wrapped up day two of the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., on Friday night, with five Redbirds either improving their marks or etching their names in the program record book.

Trey Thomas, who completed five of 10 events in his first decathlon on Thursday in Indiana, finished the event strong on Friday and now ranks 10th in program history with 6,478 points. Thomas set personal bests in the 110m hurdles (15.90), the pole vault (3.85m) and the javelin throw (46.01m) on Friday to cap his successful weekend.

Adi Scott improved her personal-best mark in the hammer throw for the fourth straight meet this season and is now tied for ninth in program history in the event with a mark of 54.74m.

Cole Stevens also made moves in the school record book in the men's hammer throw. With a personal-best throw of 60.87m, Stevens moved into eighth in program history.

Other Redbirds had success in the hammer throw as well, as Zach Cowper (21st, 44.71m), Morgan Foes (fourth, 52.39m) and Hannah Gibson (12th, 48.32m) each set personal bests in the event.

Illinois State was represented well over in California, too, as the Redbirds competed in the 800m and 5000m races. The highlight of the night came in the women's 800m, with Becca Heitzig clocking a time of 2:05.83 to move into second in program history, and Pauline Schedler crossing the finish line in 2:07.34 to jump into fifth all-time in the Redbird record books.

Logan Scott posted a strong showing in the men's 800m race, placing 12th out of 98 finishers with a personal-best time of 1:49.79, while Brooke Zeibert took 41st out of 93 participants with a personal-best mark of 2:11.23 on the women's side. Nora Brady took 20th out of 108 finishers in the 5000m race with a personal-best mark of 17:10.68.
