MADISON, Wis. – Behind a balanced scoring four group of Max Faucquez, Gonzalo Cuellar, Fernando Cobo Delgado, and Gabrielle Bravin, the Illinois State men's golf team held its position at 13th through the final round of the 2026 Badger Invitational.
Southern Miss won the 19-team event with a team score of 841, and was followed by South Dakota State (847), Western Kentucky (855), Wisconsin (855), and St. Thomas (856). Northern Illinois (858), North Dakota (867), South Dakota (867), Western Carolina (868), Green Bay (870), North Dakota State (870), and Drake (879) all finished just ahead of ISU's 880. Chasing the Redbirds were Ohio (881), Omaha (882), Southern Illinois (884), Appalachian State (888), Valparaiso (903), and Oakland (908).
Faucquez and Cuellar each closed the tournament with a one-over 73, while Cobo Delgado and Bravin both finished with a two-over 74. Faucquez' round had three birdies and 11 pars, and his 2.87 scoring average on par three holes was tied for the second-best scoring average in the field, as he tied for 23rd overall.
Cuellar had four birdies and 10 pars for his one-over 73, and he finished three shots over par for the tournament and tied for 38th. Also tied for 38th, Cobo Delgado had five birdies and seven pars in his final round. Bravin had three birdies and 10 pars for his two-over final round, placing in a tie of 93rd overall, while Sam Ottwell was the team's fifth scorer on the round with a seven-over 79, as he tied for 88th.
The Redbirds are back in action next week at the two-day Kemper Lakes Invitational, hosted at Kemper Lakes Country Club in Kildeer, Illinois, starting on Monday, October 5.
