Men’s Golf Climbs Two Spots on Final Day of Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Illinois State men's golf team climbed two spots into a tie for 11th place overall during the third and final round of the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate, as the team was led by Sam Ottwell, who finished the round with a one-under 71.

Max Faucquez shot an even-par 72 and finished with a one-under 215 for the 54 holes, which by placing in a tie for 26th, was the top individual finisher for the Redbirds.

Tournament host Coastal Carolina ran away with the tournament title with a three-round score of 835, and the Chanticleers were chased by Elon (844) and Lipscomb (846) in a three-time battle for the tournament crown. UTSA (855), Campbell (857), Stetson (858), Florida Atlantic (561), Kennesaw State (862), Jacksonville (865), and UNCW (866) rounded out the top-10 while Illinois State's 870 was matched by Jacksonville State and East Carolina. Winthrop (871), Appalachian State (872), and North Alabama (880) closed out the 16 schools in the tournament field.

Ottwell had a trio of birdies and 13 pars for his second under-par round of the tournament, and his 218 three-round score is tied for 38th overall. Fernando Cobo Delgado was tied with Faucquez for the second-best score in the round for the Redbirds with an even-par 72, as he had five birdies and nine pars, while carding a 219 in his collegiate debut to tie for 44th and tie for the 45th-lowest tournament score by a Redbird freshman in program history, while his 37 pars over the tournament are tied for the eighth-most in the field.

Gabriele Bravin shot a two-over 74 in the final round, using three birdies and one of just 20 total eagles across the 90 players in the tournament, and tied for 62nd in his first tournament as an NCAA Division I golfer. Rayden Tee – also in his first round as a collegiate – finished the tournament with a four-over 76, using a birdie and a dozen pars in his round, and his three-round 228 is tied for 81st. Gonzalo Cuellar had four birdies and nine pars for his two-over 74 in the final round, while his five-over 221 over the 54 holes is tied for 53rd.

ISU takes three weeks off before its next event – the Badger Invitational – hosted by the University of Wisconsin at TPC Wisconsin on September 27-29.
