Coleman Childers

Coleman Childers

Coleman Childers joined the Redbird soccer staff as a volunteer assistant coach in January of 2018.

Currently a full-time master’s student at Illinois State, Childers is studying Sport Psychology. With the team, he primarily works with the forward line as well as individually with members in basic sport psychology concepts such as goal-setting, working to help them strengthen the mental-aspect of their game.

Childers’ coaching career began in 2013 when he began coaching multiple age groups with KC Athletics, including multiple girls’ teams that have won Missouri State Cups, US Youth Region II Championships and made several trips to the USYS National Championships. In spring of 2017, Childers was the assistant varsity coach at Grain Valley High School in Grain Valley, Missouri while also holding the junior varsity head coach position as well. Childers holds a US Soccer 'D' License.

A 2016 graduate of Greenville University, Childers was a member of the NCAA DIII men’s soccer team there. He served as team captain and was recognized as an NCCAA Scholar Athlete in his senior year. Childers graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Psychology, having made the Dean’s List every semester he was there.

Before attending Greenville, Childers enrolled at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouri where he earned his Associate in Arts degree while playing NJCAA Division I soccer. While at MCC, Childers was on the Dean’s List all four semesters, named an NJCAA Academic All-American and helped his team to a Region XVI tournament championship his sophomore year.

Soccer is very much a tradition in Childers’ family, as almost every family member is involved in a high-level of soccer. His parents, Brad and Kenda, work as directors of KC Athletics Soccer Club and he has three siblings who play soccer at the collegiate level. Both his sisters, Reighan (senior) and Rylan (freshman) play DI soccer at UMKC while his brother Cooper (sophomore) plays DIII soccer at Westminster in Fulton, Missouri. Raena (age 16), Campbell (age 13) and Radleigh (11) all play competitive club soccer as well.
