Stacia Beste and
Christian Goy ran away with the mile, as Illinois State had an all-around strong showing at the annual Illinois State Invitational Saturday at Horton Fieldhouse.

Beste finished the womens mile with a time of 5:05 .70, while Goy clocked a time of 4:12.25 to win the mens mile.
Robert Breit and Todd Quednau finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the mile as ISU had three of the top five finishers in the mens race. In the mens 3,000 meters
Mark Reed and
Lars Juhl placed first and second with times of 8:32.49 and 8:36.53, respectively, while junior
Kevin Bailey placed fifth for the Redbirds at 9:03 .32.
We definitely made progress toward our goal of keeping momentum going into the MVC Championships next month, Pigg said. I hope we can continue making progress next week when we compete at Wisconsin.
Sophomore
Andrea Black legged out a second place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:16.80 as teammate
Egle Kregadyte placed a close third with 2:20.17. After winning the mile earlier in the day, Beste placed fifth in the 800, at 2:25.81. On the mens side, Lockport, Ill., native
Dan Schrock finished second in the 800 at 1:58.79 and teammate
Eric Duda was on his heels with a 1:59.39, good for the third place.
In the sprints,
Alia Hoyle took second in the 60 with 7.86 and fourth in the 200 at 26.11.
Bryan Smith took third in the mens 60 with a time of 7.07 and fourth in the 200 with 22.75. Teammate
Mark Walcott tied for second in the mens 200 with a 22.65.
In the womens 60 meter hurdles,
Katherine Nielsen ran a 9.48 for second place and
Hillary Hyland took fifth with a 9.54.
All-American
Sam Serrano and
Rebecca Koehler provided the one-two punch for the Birds in the 20-lb. weight throw with tosses of 5510.25 and 4807.25, respectively. Freshman Alexia Carthers throw of 4311.25 earned fourth place.
Eli Millsap placed second in the mens weight throw with a heave of 5406.75. Team captain
Alfie Gordillo placed third in the shot put with a throw of 5404.75.
April Siler vaulted a 911.75 to capture first place in the womens pole vault.
In the jumps freshman Jarod Tobler jumped 4811.75 and
Chivas Hemphill had a leap of 4701.50 for the top two finishes in the triple jump.
Melanie Zimmerman and
Nicole Blow took second and third with distances of 3702.25 and 3607.25, respectively. Grayslake, Ill., native Casey Gantt placed third in the mens long jump with 2109.50 as Hemphill took fourth with 2107.50.
The Redbirds return to action next weekend at the Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Saturday.
