Jen Klostermann, a senior middle distance runner on the Illinois State track and field team, was honored as the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week this week after her performance in the 800-meter run at the Redbird Open last Friday.
The Highland, Ill., native took home first-place honors at the meet after posting a career-best time of 2:13.11, over a second and a half better than the second-place finisher (2:15.16), in the 800 meters. The senior beat her indoor personal best which stood at 2:21.26, which she marked last year. It is the best time by any Redbird this season in that event.
Klostermann is majoring in accounting/business teacher education and has a 3.85 cumulative grade point
average.
The Valleys Scholar-Athlete program, which is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies, honors conference student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom. The program began during the 1999-00 academic year.
