Both the men and women's Illinois State track and field teams finished second at the Saluki Spring Classic hosted by Southern Illinois Saturday in Carbondale, Ill.
Rhett Hillard won the men's hammer with a throw of 47-02.00 while also capturing first place in the shot put with a toss of 51-09.75. He also placed second in the discus.
Other highlights on the men's side, where Eastern Illinois finished first as a team, was Kent Williams who placed first in the discus, Gergely Bata who won the high jump, Jeremy Doherty who placed first in the 1500 meters and Miklos Konkoly who won the 800 meters.
On the women's side, reigning Missouri Valley Conference Athletes of the Week Latisha Johnson and Andrea Mosher each won their respective events. Johnson placed first in the shot put while Mosher was first in the 400-meter hurdles. Both athletes were NCAA Regional qualifiers in those events last weekend at the Alabama Relays.
Also highlighting the women is Diana Ainsley who won the 1500 meters, Lauren Ritt who placed first in the 800 meters and Melanie Zimmerman who was second in the triple jump. The women's 4x400 meter relay team placed first also with a time 3:55.82.
Central Michigan's women's team placed first followed by the Redbirds. Southern Illinois and Eastern Illinois finished third and fourth.
The Redbirds return to action next weekend, at Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Ill.
