Latisha Johnson of Illinois Statewas named Missouri Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week after a record-shattering, personal-best and regional-qualifying mark in the shot put at the Vanderbilt Invite last Saturday.
After breaking the Illinois State outdoor record in the event at the Alabama Relays with a throw of 48-10, Johnson, a native of Jacksonville, Ill., shattered her own record with a throw of 49-7. She threw over two feet further than second-place finisher K Woods of Tennessee State (47-1) and placed first of 22 athletes in the event.
Korto Dunbar of Southern Illinois, Rolandis Nash of Southwest Missouri State and Randy Lewis of Wichita State were also named athletes of the week.
Illinois State track and field continues its outdoor season at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, April 24-26.
