MVC Names 12 to Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Team

NORMAL, Ill. - The Missouri Valley Conference announced its Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Team Wednesday, and 12 members of Illinois State were honored, including seven on the women's side and five on the men's side.

The women's team included seniors Lindsey Arnold, Amy Dian, Laura Kennedy and Lauren Maul, and juniors Lian Lucas, Betsy McDonald and Andrea Mosher. The men's team featured seniors Rhett Hillard and Brian Krantz, juniors Mark Jackson and Dan Tripp, and sophomore Joe Marcin. Ninety-four student-athletes in all qualified for the team.

Head coach Elvis Forde was pleased with his team's recognitions and has always stressed the importance of education to his student-athletes.

"All of the people who made this team are very deserving," Forde said. "Each one of them have demonstrated the ability to be very successful in the classroom and they excel on the track."

The criteria for the Valley Scholar-Athlete Track and Field Team requires a student-athlete to have placed in the top six at either the indoor or outdoor Valley championship and to maintain a GPA of 3.00 or higher. Freshman and first-year junior college transfer students are not eligible.
