NORMAL, Ill. - In the last competition before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships, part of the Illinois State track and field team competed in the Friday Night Special held at Eastern Illinois.

Many of the members of the team stayed at home to prepare and rest up before the conference championships, while other team members got one last chance to compete.

Brittney Hourd, who will compete in the heptathlon at the State championships next weekend, highlighted the women's performances with a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.91, a season-best, and a strong finish in the shot put (37-01.00) which was also a season-best.

Head coach Elvis Forde was pleased with Hourd's performances, but felt his team could have competed better.

"We had a few average performances," said Forde. "I wasn't overly impressed by any of our athletes, but Brittney did an outstanding job winning the hurdles and throwing a personal-best in the shot put. What she did this weekend ranks her near the top three in the conference which is remarkable."

Other notable performances on the women's side include jessica Sedam in the high jump (5-04.25) and Kyndra Curtin in the 60-meter dash (7.76).

On the men's side, TJ Fakehinde won the high jump in a season-best jump of 6-08.00, while Joe Marcin competed in the 800-meters running 1:57.82.

"My philosophy this time of the season is that you either have it or you don't," said Forde. "This week we'll take it a little bit easier and rest those who need to be rested and get ready for the conference championships."

As the indoor season comes to an end, the `Birds will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa on February 24-25 to compete in the Valley championships.
