Former Illinois State track and field athlete JaRod Tobler is one step closer to his Olympic dream, as he placed second in the preliminaries of the long jump Friday night to advance to the finals of the 2008 Olympic Trials, held at Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, Org., June 27-July 6.
The 2004 ISU alumnus launched a distance of 26 feet, 9.25 inches to propel himself to the finals, which will be held Sunday.
The Olympic contender competed at Illinois State from 2000-04, where he accumulated eight All-Missouri Valley Conference accolades, two conference titles, and was also named the 2004 Missouri Valley Conference's Most Valuable Track and Field Athlete.
