Redbird Track and Field Completes Day One of Big Blue Classic

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Illinois State track and field teams completed the first day of competition at the Big Blue Classic at O'Brien Field in Charleston, Ill.

Jenna Combs ran to an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles after crossing the finish line in 1:05.37, while Marissa Rader (1:08.21) finished 14th. Samantha Bluske (17:02.44) and Aisha Praught (17:15.65) ran to second- and third-place finishes, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run, while Olivia Myers (17:42.01) and Kimberly Christensen (18:29.34) completed the race in sixth and ninth places, respectively.

In the women's hammer throw, Brittany Smith finished second with a mark of 181-10, while Tori Ziegler was fourth with 152-08.

On the men's side, Fabian Norgrove was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.97, and Alex Forde completed the race in 56.71 for 15th place. Josh Pope (58.31) and Nick Gallardo (58.32) finished the race in 21st and 22nd place, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles. Scott Krapf won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:40.98, while Matt Mroczynski followed in second place with a mark of 14:44.32. Erik Stanton (15:21.71) and Sean Senf (15:40.43) finished the 5,000-meter run in 13th and 16th, respectively.

The men's throwers dominated the hammer throw, as three Redbirds finished in the top-10. Spencer Prince (179-00), Curt Jensen (169-10) and Colin Fane (157-03) ended the event in third, sixth and ninth places, respectively.

Action will resume Saturday morning with the men's javelin throw beginning at 10 a.m., while running events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. with the 110-meter hurdles.
