Szabo Takes Leave; Spack Assumes DC Duties

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head football coach Brock Spack announced that defensive coordinator Steve Szabo has taken an indefinite leave of absence Thursday due to personal reasons. Spack also announced he will serve as both the head coach and defensive coordinator for the remainder of spring practice.

"The timing for this sort of thing is never really good, but Steve needs to address some personal matters," Spack said. "In terms of where we head defensively, nothing changes. I'm looking forward to being even more hands on with the defense, and continuing to move forward with our progress as a team."

Spack is no stranger to the defensive coordinator position. Prior to arriving at Illinois State as the head coach, Spack served 12 years as the defensive coordinator at Purdue and two more at Wyoming under Joe Tiller.
