Redbird Track and Field Prepares for Lee Calhoun Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. - After a solid performance at the EIU Big Blue Classic by the Illinois State track and field teams, including Tim Glover's school record in the javelin throw, the Redbirds will travel to Macomb, Ill., to compete in the 22nd Lee Calhoun Invitational Friday and Saturday at Hanson Field.

The meet begins Friday at 3 p.m. with the women's hammer throw, while running events begin at 4:30 p.m. with the medley relay. The meet will conclude Saturday, with field and running events both beginning at 11 a.m.

Last weekend, the Redbirds won 13 events on the final day of competition at the EIU Big Blue Classic, which was highlighted by Glover, as he bested the competition in the javelin with a school record heave of 249-00. The Normal, Ill., native broke his own record, which he previously set last season at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships with a throw of 233-11.

The women's team won eight of the 13 events on day two of the Big Blue Classic. In the 400-meter dash, Sade Sealy won the race with a time of 55.63, while Jess Husted won the 1,500-meter run in 4:37.93. Kristen Zillmer (10:56.65) and Kirsten Lang (11:10.62) recorded first- and second-place finishes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The ISU women controlled a majority of the field events during the meet. Brittany Smith bested the competition in the shot put with a heave of 50-06.75, and Leigh Petranoff won the javelin throw with a toss of 156-01. Amanda Albrecht maintained her momentum from the indoor season, as she won the high jump in her first outdoor competition, after clearing the bar set at 5-04.25.

The women's relays also won the 4X100-meter relay and the 4X400-meter relay to complete the successful day.

On the men's side, Mat Smoody (1:52.42) crossed the finish line in first place in the 800-meter run. In the field events, Curt Jensen won the shot put with a throw of 56-01.75, while Tyler Knight recorded a leap of 48-09.50 and won the triple jump. Drew Holl won the high jump with a height after clearing the bar set at 6-06.00.
