EUGENE, Ore. -
Members of the Illinois State track and field teams that qualified for the 2011 NCAA West Region Preliminary Round in Eugene, Ore., completed the three-day meet Saturday evening, as the Redbirds competed in four events.
In the field events, Amanda Albrecht's senior season came to a close at the regional, as the Festus, Mo., native finished in a four-way tie for 20th place in the high jump with a leap of 5-7. Brittany Smith, who already qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw, finished 16th in the discus with a mark of 160-10, but her throw wasn't enough to qualify for the outdoor championships. Tyler Knight finished 42nd in the triple jump with a leap of 46-08, but didn't qualify for the finals.
On the track, the 400-meter relay team of Alia McAfee, Jordan Frey, Shandel Ellis and Sade Sealy finished 21st, after crossing the finish line in 3:45.06. The team did not advance on to the NCAA Championships.
Three Redbirds qualified for the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, on Drake's campus, which will be held June 8-11.
