DES MOINES, Iowa – Looking to build off of last weekend's success at the Northern Iowa Invitational, the Illinois State women's tennis team will compete at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships hosted by Drake at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center, beginning Friday.
"Competing at the UNI Invitational last weekend prepared us well for the MVC Individual Championships," head coach Maja Kovacek said. "We had some good wins there, and we are hoping to build on that and continue to play better each match. It will be good for us to get familiar with the competition in our conference and see where we stand."
Joining ISU at the MVC tournament are Bradley, Drake, Evansville, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Wichita State. The competition will consist of seven singles flights and three doubles flights.
Competing in flight one singles will be junior Kadi Ilves versus Northern Iowa's Elvira Lopez, while in flight two, freshman Donna Haycock will compete against Missouri State's Mackenzie Rozell. Freshman Valerija Gercar will face Evansville's Andjela Brguljan in flight three, while sophomore Chanel Scudiero will take on Wichita State's Giulia Guidetti in flight four. Cricket Geldermann will face Southern Illinois' Yana Golovkina in flight five, and sophomore Natalia Parchowska will play Bradley's Liz Przystawski in the flight six bracket.
In doubles play, the duo of Ilves and Scudiero will compete in flight one versus Evansville's Marketa Trousilova and Marina Moreno. In flight two, Haycock and Gercar will compete against Wichita State's Gabriela Porubin and Giulia Guidetti, while Geldermann and Parchowska will compete in flight three versus Missouri State's Ema Turudija and Rebecca McIsaac.
Last year, ISU earned three MVC Individual Championship titles.
The competition will begin Friday and continue through Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. each day.
