NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State senior defensive tackle Collin Keoshian was honored for his academic achievements in addition to his football abilities, when he was selected to the 2014 Academic All-District V team voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergrad and graduate work. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
A native of Santa Clarita, California, Keoshian is in his second season at Illinois State after transferring from Glendale College. Keoshian began his career with the Redbirds as a running back in 2013, finishing the season with 204 yards rushing and ranking second on the team with six touchdowns.
Keoshian, who maintains a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average in university studies, made the move to the defensive line in 2014 and has flourished in his new role. Through eight games, Keoshian has recorded 36 tackles, 4.5 sacks and five tackles-for-loss while helping the Redbirds to a 7-1 record and the team's best start since 1932.
A total of 17 Valley Football student-athletes earned 2014 Academic All-District honors, who each advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
