Redbirds Headline Track and Field News

Ryan Rutherford was named a 2014 surprise for Flotrack.

NORMAL, Ill. — This past weekend current redbird Ryan Rutherford made headlines in Flotrack, as he was named one of 2014 NCAA's biggest surprises, while former Redbirds Aisha Praught and Tim Glover continue to have success post collegiately.

Rutherford's personal-best 10K and 5K times this year have shattered Illinois State records, and he boasts the 10K Missouri Valley Conference record after running 28:41 at the Stanford Invitational (April 4).  His 10K time currently stands in the No. 5 spot on the NCAA leaderboard. The Bloomington, Ill., native's 5K PR of 13:49 was earned at the Jesse Owens Classic April 18.  As The Valley Championships approach, Rutherford certainly looks to make noise as a top-contender

Praught clocked a time of 9:42.08 in the steeplechase at the Payton Jordan Invitational meet in Palo Alto, Calif. Her time currently stands as the fourth-best in the world.

Glover's mark of 84.01 meters 275-07 still stands as the world-leading mark in the javelin.

The Redbirds are back in action May 16-18, as they travel to Carbondale, Ill., for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.
