Redbird Summer Baseball Update No. 6

NORMAL, Ill. – Paul DeJong etched his name into the Northwoods League record book this summer as a member of the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

DeJong, a rising junior, tied a single-season league record when he belted his 20^th home run of the season on Aug. 10, the final game of the regular season. DeJong's homer provided the difference in a game the Woodchucks needed to win in order to clinch a playoff berth.

The native of Antioch, Illinois, hit .277 with 15 doubles, 57 runs scored and 61 RBIs in 69 games this summer. DeJong was selected to the Northwoods League All-Star Game, where he singled and scored to help the South Division to a 3-0 victory on July 22.

DeJong was selected to participate in the Northwoods League's Big League Dreams event, in which the league's top 100 players gathered in Madison, Wisconsin, on Aug. 5, to participate in a day of workouts in front of Major League Baseball scouts. The event was capped by an exhibition doubleheader and DeJong went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs for South Team One in the opener.

DeJong, however, isn't the only Redbird keeping busy this summer:

Sean Beesley – Willmar Stingers – Northwoods League – Link to Willmar bio

• Finished the regular season batting .305 with 34 runs scored, 24 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in 61 games, helping Willmar to the Northwoods playoffs
• Selected to participate in Big League Dreams event; went 0-for-2 for North Team One

• Finished the regular season with 1-2 record and 3.60 ERA in seven appearances, striking out 26 over 30 innings
• Helped Lakeshore earn a spot in the Northwoods playoffs

Matt Lambert – Wisconsin Woodchucks – Northwoods League – Link to Wisconsin bio

• Finished regular season with a 3-1 record and a 3.00 ERA in seven appearances spanning 27 innings
• Rejoined the Woodchucks on Aug. 2 and earned a win as Wisconsin topped Kenosha, 4-2

• Helped Amsterdam to Perfect Game League regular-season and postseason titles
• Batted .256 with 14 RBIs and 19 runs scored in 37 games

• Concluded summer season with 4-2 record and 2.71 ERA in 13 appearances covering 66.1 innings

• Finished summer season with .253 average, two home runs and eight RBIs
